Local Attractions

Cockerham Sands Country Park provides the ideal base from which to explore Lancashire and the North West of England, with many of the region’s attractions within easy reach of the park.

Blackpool, one of Britains’s most popular holiday destinations, is only twenty-five miles away, and the Lake District National Park, complete with its dramatic scenery, is less than an hour by car.

The Forest of Bowland, an area renowned for its wildlife and natural beauty, sits just the other side of the M6, while the historic city of Lancaster is only seven miles from the park.

There is so much to do in the area surrounding Cockerham Sands, but if you’re stuck for ideas, our friendly team of staff would be more than happy to provide you with any information. In the meantime, we have included a few of the local attraction below.

Lancaster is situated on the River Lune and has a wealth of history dating back to 80AD when it existed as a Roman Fort. There are a variety of places of interest in Lancaster including Norman built Lancaster Castle, Lancaster Priory and Parish Church which is an 11th century priory, St Peter’s Cathedral, Williamson Park and the Ashton Memorial. There is a vibrant cultural scene in Lancaster with The Dukes, an independent repertory theatre and cinema, Lancaster’s Grand Theatre and art galleries as well as many places to eat and drink.

Garstang is situated on the banks of the River Wyre with the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the doorstep. The town is steeped in history and has plenty of things for you to do. With the abundant wildlife you can go fishing, bird watching and walking in the beautiful countryside. There are also a wide variety of independent retailers, cafes and restaurants.

Blackpool, one of Britain’s most popular holiday destinations with plenty of thrills, excitement and adventure, is easily accessible from Cockerham Sands Country Park. There are the thrilling rides at the Pleasure Beach Resort and the world’s longest indoor rollercoaster waterslide at the Sandcastle Waterpark.

For those interested in animals there is Blackpool Zoo, home to 1,500 animals, birds and insects from all over the world and the Sea Life Centre for those interested in the weird and wonderful creatures from the deep sea. By night there are the world-famous Illuminations and of course there is the iconic Blackpool Tower, miles of golden sand and much more.

Lake District

The glories of the English Lakes are around 30 miles away and help make Cockerham Sands the perfect setting for a touring or static caravan holiday. The Lake District is England’s largest National Park and includes Scafell Pike, its highest mountain and Wastwater, its deepest lake as well as communities including Keswick and Bowness-on-Windermere.

There is plenty to do in the Lake District for all ages and abilities, including walking from ambles around lakes to high ridge walks, biking, fishing, climbing and more all with the stunning backdrop that the Lake District has to offer.
